Unified Improvement Planning - New Website
To provide a wider array of resources, CDE has just launched a new UIP website. The new format and resources are available to help schools and districts as they update their Unified Improvement Plans (UIPs). Visit http://www.cde.state.co.us/uip/index.asp to access the new site directly. If you go to the old URL, you will now see a screen that re-directs you to the new site. Please remember to update your bookmarks.
The previous resources are still available. Now you will get to experience the website in an “easy to use” and interactive format. You will notice a UIP process map on the upper left-hand corner of the new homepage that guides you through the UIP process. Users may click on a step in the process map to be directed to resources available for that step.
As we continue to improve the new site, you will notice updates and current news listed on the UIP homepage. Look for announcements for new UIP resources, video clips, and written case stories, and training materials.

Enroll Your District in the Visiting Teachers from Spain Program
The Visiting Teachers from Spain Program is an International Cooperation program sponsored by the Ministry of Education and over 25 U.S and Canadian departments of education and a large number of school districts in the U.S and Alberta (Canada). The program started in 1986, as a pilot experience in California and New York. Since then, it has expanded to over 25 states and has had over five thousand participant teachers.
GOAL OF THE PROGRAM The spirit of the program is based on multicultural understanding and cultural exchange. Its main objectives are, thus, built on these two strong foundations:
Strengthen the relations between the U.S/Canada and Spain. Increase the quality of the teaching of the Spanish language in the U.S and Canada. Provide students with bilingual and multicultural education that prepares them for future personal, academic and professional success. Provide the Spanish teachers with an excellent opportunity for professional development and growth.
Teachers are pre-screened by the Ministry and interviewed and ultimately hired by the State/School District representative/s in Madrid. All are highly qualified, enthusiastic and experienced. Their English skills are assessed by the American / Canadian representative/s during the interviews. They come to the U.S under a J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa and can obtain a temporary teaching license for up to three years, the duration of the J-1 Visa.

Transportation
Love the Bus Campaign
Think about a specific group of employees that show up in the district long before anyone else. Rain or shine, freezing cold, or smoldering hot, they are there for the students of your district. Have thought where your district would be without them?
The Love the Bus program is designed to thank our school bus drivers on Valentine’s Day and share success stories with communities and the state.
With an educator toolkit, certificates, valentines and blank cards, LoveTheBus.com has a plethora of ideas on how these unsung heroes can be recognized for the efforts they put in on every school day. They provide the safest form of transportation to and from school for our students across Colorado.
