Statewide Longitudinal Data System Data Effectiveness Survey

Attn: Superintendents, District Assessment Coordinators, Data Collections, District Data Analysts

In November 2007, CDE was awarded a federal grant to improve the Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS). This grant has been used to enhance the systems in various areas including Data Warehouse and Reporting and National Transcript Center, among others.

Today we are writing to ask you to participate in a survey to guide our next steps. This survey will:

1. Help CDE quantify the effectiveness of the current longitudinal data systems for users and stakeholders.
2. Identify potential areas for improvement as we enter into the final year of the grant.

Your participation is critical as we make decisions and set priorities for the work to be completed over the next year.

We are asking respondents to complete this survey by Friday, Oct. 9. The survey will take about 15-20 minutes to complete, depending on the length of your responses to the narrative questions. Check your respective e-mails for the details.

Thank you for your time in completing this survey.

Teachers Rewarded for Achieving National Certification

Attn: Principals, Superintendents, Personnel Directors, Teachers

Gov. Bill Ritter announced yesterday the re-instatement of funding for stipends to be given to those teachers who have achieved Certification with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

The stipends were created by the Colorado Legislature to support the efforts of teachers striving to elevate their profession by meeting national benchmarks. The 316 teachers, receiving the distribution of the stipends during the next 60 days, applied for the funds during the last school year. Funds to provide the stipends are coming from Colorado’s ARRA stimulus fund package.

Funds will also be available for a second distribution in May 2010. Applications for that distribution will be sent to school districts next month. Candidates must be National Board Certified, on a teacher’s contract and teaching in Colorado’s P-12 public schools to apply.
