Event

Accountability Work Session for AECs Tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 30

Attn: Superintendents, Principals of Alternative Education Campuses

CDE will host a work session for superintendents (or their designee) and principals of Alternative Education Campuses on Thursday, Sept. 30. The meeting will be from 10 a.m. - noon in the CDE State Board Room at 201 E. Colfax, Denver, 80203. No registration is necessary.

CDE will present findings from its review of the submissions of accountability measures for AECs. An initial review found high variability in the measures, metrics and cut-points selected across districts. The department is currently analyzing state data to better calibrate appropriate cut-points. Since this delays the department's approval of AEC measures, we are re-examining the Oct. 15 deadline for districts to submit 2009-10 AEC results.

We encourage district leaders with AECs and AEC leaders to attend. We value our partnership with districts and schools in this effort and invite you to contact us prior to this meeting if you wish to discuss this in advance. If you cannot attend, we will schedule a subsequent webinar in the coming weeks.

The deadline was Sept. 1 for districts to submit their selection of accountability measures. If you have not submitted this for your AECs, please send your forms ASAP to Margo Allen at allen_m@cde.state.co.us. The form is available online at the link below.

Concurrent Enrollment Frequently Asked Questions

Attn: Principals, Superintendents, District Finance Office, School Counselors

In order to help clarify Concurrent Enrollment and ASCENT programs, we will release responses to frequently asked questions in the weekly Scoop newsletter.

FAQs for this week:
Q: Do CLEP credits count toward the 12 needed for ASCENT?
A: Any college-level credit transcribed on the college transcript will count towards the 12 credit hour requirements.

Q: Does the Accuplacer exam have to be taken prior to enrollment?
A: The legislation does not require a specific postsecondary test; however, a qualified student who intends to concurrently enroll in a postsecondary course, including an academic or a career and technical education course, must satisfy the minimum prerequisites for the course prior to his or her enrollment in the course. In order to demonstrate meeting pre-requisites the institution of higher education may require testing or other means to demonstrate preparedness.

Q: How does an institution of higher education determine that the student is qualified?
A: The institutions of higher education will utilize existing procedures and or those in the cooperative agreement to determine if a student is qualified.
