Announcement

Remember to Check for Ticks

Attn: Teachers, school nurses

If you’ve been spending time outdoors, especially around grasses and low-growing plants, check yourself for ticks! Ticks are arachnids (related to spiders) that feed on the blood of animals. They are found throughout Colorado, commonly at higher elevations and are most active during the summer months. Ticks usually are found on grasses and low plants, waiting to attach to a host. They don’t fall from trees, jump or fly!

Keep ticks off by wearing protective clothing. Long pants, long-sleeved shirts and other clothing can help exclude ticks or keep them from attaching to the skin. Insect repellent also can be used.

A thorough "tick check" can be an effective alternative to repellents. If you find a tick, remove it by grasping it with tweezers as close to the skin as possible. Pull upward and don’t twist or jerk the tick. After removing, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.

Two insect repellants are effective – products with permethrin, which is used only to treat clothing, and DEET, which is applied to skin that is not covered by clothing. Take precautions when using any insecticide. Do not apply DEET to hands or other areas that may come into contact with the mouth. After use, wash or bathe treated areas.

District and School Performance Framework Reports, Webinars & Accreditation

Attn: Superintendents, District Accountability Contacts, Principals

Accountability Website
The resources previously found on the SchoolView Learning Center have moved to CDE’s Accountability & Support website at: http://www.cde.state.co.us/Accountability/index.asp. Please check this website regularly for updates to the DPFs/SPFs.

Draft DPF/SPF Reports
Draft DPFs/SPFs are available on CEDAR for district and school users: https://cedar2.cde.state.co.us/.
• Click on “District and School Performance Framework.”
• For each file type, click on the “stack of papers” icon under “Actions.” Note that if you do not click on the stack of papers, you will not see all of your reports. Clicking the stack of papers will allow you to access 1-year and 3-year reports for each school.
• Districts may choose to share the preliminary results with schools and stakeholders, including local boards and the media, as they see fit. However, it should be noted that the reports are drafts for district review. CDE will not finalize and publicly post them until December. Results will stay the same unless the district files a Request to Reconsider.
• See "Events" for upcoming SPF webinars on Sept. 8 and 15.

School Accreditation and Requests to Reconsider
All districts will need to submit a school accreditation form by Oct. 15.
• The form is currently being moved to an online form (rather than an Excel form) and will be available in September. It will be similar to last year’s form, which you can view in the appendix of this document: http://bit.ly/ptW3p4.
• Districts have the opportunity to submit a Request to Reconsider (appeal) for their district and/or schools by Oct. 15. CDE will only consider changes to overall accreditation ratings and/or plan types, and will review each submission on a case-by-case basis. Guidance on the types of information considered in review is described in the document above.
