Announcement
Colorado Model Content Standards Review
Attn: All Educators
You are invited to join an important conversation about the future of education in Colorado.
The Colorado State Board of Education and the Colorado Department of Education are preparing for the comprehensive revision of the state’s Model Content Standards. Those standards set the targets for classroom instruction and student learning—and we need your voice in the discussion to help determine what students need to know and demonstrate in every subject.
We are writing to invite you to apply for membership to the Model Content Standards Review subcommittees. Applications are available online at the link provided below ("Click here for additional information").
Subcommittee members will be selected for arts, mathematics, physical education, reading, writing, science, social studies and world language. The deadline to submit applications is September 15, 2008.
Hundreds of Colorado educators and business leaders from all regions of the state are needed to successfully review our standards. The committees will be responsible for recommending new 21st century standards to the Colorado Board of Education by December 2009. The selection process will be conducted by stakeholders representing K-12 schools, higher education, early childhood education, business, industry and community interests. Candidates will be notified of their selection to the committees by mid-October.
We ask that you forward this announcement and encourage your constituents to participate in the important endeavor. Thank you in advance for your time and support for our new, improved educational standards.

Online Learning in Colorado
Attn: Superintendents, Principals
Does your online program meet the definition of an online program? Will your online program be correctly identified in the Longitudinal Growth Table so that parents will receive accurate data?
The unit of Online Learning can provide assistance in making sure that your program is correctly identified and represented. In order to provide support to you, we will be sending out a list of questions to all districts involved in online learning. A follow-up phone interview will occur to provide an opportunity to discuss your responses to the questions. We look forward to speaking with you in the coming weeks!

School Counselor Corps Grant Writing Sessions
Attn: Superintendents, District Personnel, Principals
School Counselor Corps Grant Applications are due on Wednesday, October 1, 2008.
A school district (on behalf of one or more secondary schools), BOCES, charter school or institute charter school may apply for School Counselor Corps Grant funds. They may apply for increasing the number of school counselors for secondary students (grades 7-12) and the level of school counseling services provided to increase the graduation rate within the state and increase the percentage of students who appropriately prepare for, apply to, and continue into postsecondary education.
CDE will facilitate grant writing information sessions for district leaders in early September. We encourage anyone interested in applying for this grant to attend. For information regarding the grant writing sessions, the RFP, and exemplary grant application examples, please visit the link below.
