Event
Regional Presentations to Superintendents/BOCES Directors on Growth, Accreditation and Accreditation Contracts
Attn: Superintendents, BOCES Directors
The Colorado Accreditation process has undergone significant changes; it is our intent that districts will generally be held harmless during this current school year so that we can learn the new system together. The changes reflect requirements from state statute, input from superintendents and other education leaders and direction from "Forward Thinking." The new process also incorporates the Colorado Growth Model.
I will be conducting regional meetings concerning the accreditation process and the implementation of the Colorado Growth Model (1st two hours of session). Technical assistance will also be provided for the six-year Accreditation Contract that each school district needs to submit by October 15, 2008 (last hour of session for those interested). Also, someone from federal programs will be on hand to address the latest federal ruling on AYP and the change in how some ELL students will be coded.
You are invited to attend any of the regional meetings that best fit your schedule.

FYI
Note to all Colorado Superintendents
Attn: Superintendents
Please be on the lookout this week for a letter from Deputy Commissioner Ken Turner. It will describe changes that are underway at CDE. These affect the regional services unit. Part of the change involves personnel. Recently, Michael Clough was named Superintendent in the Sheridan School District and Jackie Webb accepted an appointment in Sheridan as Director of Curriculum and Instruction. As a result, the department conducted a search and has identified two replacements. The letter will provide information on who will be joining the department. It will also describe a shift in regional assignments. Finally, the letter will explain how responsibilities are being redrawn at CDE in order to provide better service to districts. The regional managers play a key role in this reorganization. The managers will be led by Jhon Penn in his new role as Director for Accreditation and Regional Services.
