Attn: High School Principals, Superintendents
The Colorado Department of Education announces the selection of the 2009-2010 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship recipients. This program, which is federally funded and state administered, recognizes exceptionally able high school seniors who show promise of continued excellence in postsecondary education.
The 147 graduating high school seniors were chosen based upon demonstrated academic achievement in high school. The scholarship is to be used to assist with the cost of undergraduate studies at institutions of higher learning during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Scholarships are awarded equally across Colorado's seven congressional districts. Each recipient is awarded up to $1,500 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study, contingent upon federal funding. For the 2009-2010 program year, the federal allocation to Colorado is approximately $631,500 for Colorado's Byrd Scholars.

DAC Academy
Attn: Superintendents, District Assessment Coordinators (DACs)
The Unit of Student Assessment is offering its first training for DACs on Thursday, August 27.
NEW DACs It is mandatory that you attend from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. We are hosting this live training in Denver since the management, logistics and technical requirements for Colorado's assessment system is detailed and exacting (CSAP, CSAPA, CELApro, COACT, NAEP). Previous feedback from DACs indicates that early face-to-face training helps prevent errors and missed deadlines.
VETERAN DACS Your attendance is appreciated from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Please join us for this important training, as new and essential information for the 2009-2010 administrative year will be given, including some additional break-out sessions.
IMPORTANT The registration process and a tentative agenda will be available online. A link to this information will be e-mailed to DACs on Monday, August 3. Registration will close on Wednesday, August 19.

2009-10 Consolidated Applications Review Status Update
Attn: Federal Program Contacts, Consolidated Application Coordinators
The 2009-2010 NCLB Consolidated Applications are being reviewed by program staff. The reviews for many of the programs are taking longer than in previous years, primarily because of the additional components required by the ARRA funds. Program and fiscal staff hope to have most applications reviewed by the end of the month, but some may extend into August. Staff is committed to getting comments to districts as soon as possible. An e-mail will be sent to each application coordinator, once substantial approval is given. Thank you for your patience.
