Register for CASE Pre-Conference Session: Planning for Leadership

Tuesday, July 27, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

OVERVIEW:
District and school leaders will learn and apply key principles for successful standards implementation planning. The department is designing a comprehensive approach to supporting Colorado in the transition to the revised Colorado Academic Standards. The process includes four broad phases: awareness, transition, implementation and transformation.

This pre-convention session will provide instructional leaders with tools, resources and an opportunity to interact with colleagues to thoughtfully plan for transition while supporting awareness.

Participants in this session will:
• Understand the key components of a standards-based system, including indicators at the district, school and classroom level.
• Explore ways that the Colorado Academic Standards can refresh a standards-based system.
• Use planning and evaluation tools to support strategic planning for standards implementation.
• Discuss strategies for supporting the staff awareness stage, while planning for the transition to the Colorado Academic Standards.

Expect an interactive and engaging session with plenty of time for discussion among attendees within and across job-alike groups.

COST:
$155 CASE members and $195 non-members
Includes the P20 Alignment p.m. session (12:45 - 2:15 p.m.), Rural Educators Conversation (2:30 - 4:30 p.m.), continental breakfast, working lunch, beverage break and an invitation to the Networking Reception (4:30 - 6 p.m.)

Personnel Technological Proficiency Self Assessment Survey Questions

Attn: Superintendents, Principals, Federal Program Contacts, Human Resource Contacts, Technology Directors

CDE is pleased to announce the release of the Personnel Technological Proficiency Self Assessment Survey questions.

These survey questions were developed based on the International Society of Technology in Educations National Education Technology Standards for Teachers and Administrators. The questions are available for use to determine personnel technological proficiency which is reported annually through the HR/SPED October 1 collections.

CDE is currently developing an electronic system, which will be ready in the fall, for collecting responses to the self assessment survey. For additional information regarding the Personnel Technological Proficiency reporting requirement visit the link listed below.

AYP Training Webinars

AYP training webinars have been scheduled for:

-Tuesday, July 20 at 1 p.m.
-Wednesday, July 21 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
-Thursday, July 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Please pass on this information to people in your district that will be working with AYP data. Additional webinars will be scheduled as the need arises. Also, two Denver/Colorado Springs metro area in-person trainings will be held the first week of August; exact dates and locations will be announced soon.

Background Check Updates from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation

Attn: Superintendents, Charter School Principals

Beginning Friday July 9, superintendents and charter school principals will receive a weekly e-mail from CDE with electronic files attached. These files will contain information from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on all individuals who have fingerprints in the educator licensing database and whose criminal history has changed due to arrests, charges or dispositions provided to CBI. Included in the scanned files will be the name(s) of the individual, date of birth and, where provided, the last four digits of the social security number.

If the disposition is not shown or further explanation of an arrest charge or disposition is desired, that information may be obtained from the agency furnishing the arrest information.

Colorado statute states districts and charter schools should cross-check employee lists with the provided update and take appropriate action, if necessary.

Applications for New and Renewal Designation as an Alternative Education Campus Due Tomorrow, July 1

Attn: Superintendents, Principals

Tomorrow, July 1, is the deadline for all schools previously granted Alternative Education Campus status to submit an assurance form indicating that they continue to meet the eligibility criteria to be designated an AEC.

Tomorrow, July 1, is also the deadline for schools seeking AEC designation for the first time to submit an application that includes certification of the school's population.

By Wednesday, September 1, all AECs (old and new) will need to submit a selection of the measures that will be used to evaluate their performance, with the approval of their authorizer. A form will be available by August.

Assurance and application forms may be submitted in PDF to Margo Allen at allen_m@cde.state.co.us.
