Invitation to Participate in the Colorado Integration Project: Application Due Friday, July 8
Attn: Superintendents, Curriculum and Instruction Directors, Professional Development, Educator Perfomance Evaluation Professionals, Secondary School Principals
The Colorado Legacy Foundation (CLF) would like to partner with four school districts from across Colorado to engage in a series of activities over the next three years designed to significantly improve the post-secondary and workforce readiness of Colorado public high school graduates. One of these districts has been designated as Denver Public Schools. With the selection of three additional school districts, CLF seeks to create a cohort with the following characteristics (a single district could satisfy more than one of these characteristics and a participating district is not REQUIRED to satisfy any of these characteristics): • Denver Public Schools; • At least one other urban district with ≥ 35,000 students, at least 50 percent of whom are minority and/or eligible for free or reduced lunch; • At least one district with ≤ 35,000 students at least 50 percent of whom are minority and/or eligible for free or reduced lunch; • At least one district with two or more schools in the lowest two categories of school performance statewide; and • At least one rural district with a student population that includes at least 50% minority and/or free or reduced lunch population.
A group of districts may apply jointly with their BOCES. The BOCES will be considered a single “district” for purposes of this application.
A large district that does not meet the criteria above may also consider applying if it has secondary schools that do satisfy the criteria.
CLF retains full discretion to select a cohort of districts that it deems most likely to meet the intended goals of the project and is not bound by the criteria above.
This project is distinct from the performance evaluation pilot program being planned by CDE. For more information about the differences between this project and CDE’s pilot program please see: http://www.cde.state.co.us/educatoreffectiveness/

Update
New Pesticide Fact Sheet Available for Schools
Attn: Teachers, principals, superintendents
We all want a safe environment for our schools, inside and out; one that is safe from pest organisms, arthropod vectored diseases and inappropriate chemical use.
Integrated Pest Management focuses on reducing conditions that are conductive to pests and, if needed, ecologically sound remedial action. Pest management is based on the results of regular inspections and monitoring. Non-chemical methods are the first choice for controlling pests. Appropriate, low-risk pest control applications can be used when an infestation is confirmed and other options are not effective. IPM is people oriented and an effective management strategy. Check out our new fact sheets for schools: http://coloradoipmcenter.agsci.colostate.edu/Communities/school_IPM.html

Update on CDE Educator Evaluation Pilot
Attn: Superintendents
CDE has received applications from 41 districts interested in being part of the Educator Evaluation pilot process.
Thirty-three districts applied to pilot the state model teacher and principal evaluation systems and five applied to be partner districts that will map their existing educator evaluation systems against state board rules. Applications also included statements of interest from three charter schools applying through the Charter School Institute as a charter cohort, as well as one set of districts applying as an entire BOCES. Districts self-identified into the following categories: Rural (16); Suburban (12); Mountain (9); and Urban (4). In light of the volume of applications and the necessary review to select a cohort of six to eight districts, CDE has developed a two-stage selection process. Districts that have applied to be part of the pilot will receive a letter via email detailing the pilot selection process by Wednesday, July 6. Districts selected as pilot districts will be notified of their status by Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Teacher Student Data Link Project – Web site Launched and Pilot Participants Needed
Attn: Superintendent, Technology Directors, Data Contacts, Technical Staff, Registrars
CDE's Information Management Services Office is proud to announce the launch of the newly completed Teacher Student Data Link (TSDL) Web site. This Web site will be the repository of project information, FAQs, collection system training, and timelines regarding the TSDL Project Pilot and future data requests.
To learn more about the project, please visit, http://www.cde.state.co.us/edidproject/DataLink.asp
Pilot Participants Needed Several districts have committed to participate in the Teacher Student Data Link (TSDL) Pilot but we are looking for a few more.
These districts will be the first to upload and test their teacher and student data, which is a critical component in Phase III of the Educator Identifier Project. Also, these districts will be instrumental in assisting CDE in developing the training, processes and systems related to the TSDL project. Finally, these districts will have a head start on this requirement prior to the 2012-2013 school year.
The pilot will run from September to November but the schedule and timing can be flexible based on your districts availability. For additional information, or if your district is interested in participating in the pilot, please contact Steve Trujillo.
