Professional Development Opportunity on Writing Instruction in the Elementary Grades
Attn: Superintendents, Principals, Title I, Special Education, Curriculum Directors
The Office of Teaching and Learning is offering a nine day professional learning community (PLC) experience for writing instruction in the elementary grades. This opportunity is appropriate for primary, intermediate, special education teachers, Title I teachers and administrators.
The event combines five days of intensive writing training with four days of opportunities for demonstration and dialogue. Participants will: learn practical strategies for teaching writing to elementary students; have the opportunity to see these strategies in use; practice the strategies and implement them to improve the writing achievement of every student.
Sessions begin August 25 and culminate April 21, 2010. Participants must attend all sessions. CDE renewal and Adams State College credit are available.
The cost is $185 for the entire program. The cost includes participant materials and meals. There are 50 spaces available on a first-come, first serve basis.

Save the Date - CSSRC School Safety Conference
Attn: Superintendents, Principals, School Safety-Related Personnel
The Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC) will host a school safety conference, Tuesday, Sept. 29- Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in Grand Junction. One of the two days will be an intensive session that concentrates on threat assessment and the National Incident Management System. Additional information will be available soon at the CSSRC Web site.

Title II-D ARRA Rubric

The Title II, Part D ARRA rubric has been added to the Consolidated Applicaton Training Center Web site. This rubric should be used as a self-assessment for the II-D ARRA section of the application prior to submittal.
Remember - consolidated applications are due Tuesday, June 30, 2009. PowerPoints for all of the training sessions are available online at the link below.

Mathematics and Science Partnerships 2009-2010 RFP - Due Date Extension

CDE is extending the deadline for submission of the 2009-2010 Mathematics and Science Partnerships Request for Proposals. The new deadline is Monday, July 20 at 5 p.m. Mailed proposals must be postmarked by Friday, July 17, 2009.

2009-2010 Consolidated Application

Reminder: The 2009-2010 Consolidated Application is due Tuesday, June 30! Applications that are received by the due date and that are complete (i.e., includes electronic budget, application approval form, affirmation of consultation) will be reviewed by CDE during the weeks of July 6 and 13. Notice of Substantial Approval and comment logs will be available by the week of July 20.

NCLB Online Monitoring System - Training Update
Attn: Federal Program Contacts, Application Coordinators, Title I, II, and III Directors
The Office of Federal Program Administration will begin initial training for the new NCLB online monitoring system, Colorado Tracker, this summer. A two-hour overview of the system will be presented during a pre-session workshop at the CASE Convention on Tuesday, July 28, in Breckenridge.
OFPA staff will follow up with intensive, regional trainings in mid-August. The field can expect trainings to be conducted in the following locations: •Delta •Glenwood Springs •Steamboat Springs •Durango •Alamosa •Pueblo •La Junta •Limon •Sterling •Greeley •Colorado Springs •Denver area
An online registration system will be used to register participants for the training. More information about specific dates and locations will be provided in early July.

Save the Date - 2009 NCLB Director's Meeting
Attn: Federal Program Contacts, Consolidated Application Coordinators
The Office of Federal Program Administration will host a meeting on Monday, Sept. 14 for NCLB Directors. CDE staff will use the critical dates calendar for 2009-2010 as an organizer for this meeting. Online registration will be available in early August. The meeting is slated to be held at the Adams 12 Training Center.

School Nurse Orientation
Attn: School Nurses, Health Professionals
Registration is still open for the School Nurse Orientation Program July 20 - 23 in Frisco. If you have hired a nurse new to school nursing, this is an important first step in helping them transition into the world of providing health services in an educational setting. They will have the opportunity to meet with school nurse mentors and sign up for the Induction Program which leads to a Special Services Professional License.
