Announcement
New Standards-Based Learning Guide Available
Attn: Superintendents, principals
The Standards-Based Teaching/Learning Cycle, a guide created in collaboration with the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE), the Colorado Education Association (CEA), Tointon Institute for Educational Change and Focused Leadership Solutions was developed to create a common vision of implementing standards-based education.
In 2006, a group of the state’s educators from a number of organizations and districts, came together to help districts and schools more effectively implement standards-based practices.
After collaborating for nearly a year, the committee commissioned a document that would clearly and simply articulate what it means to be standards-based in practice. The Standards-Based Teaching/Learning Cycle was produced under a grant from the federal programs and school support units at CDE and is intended to be the first in a series of tools to guide districts toward greater understanding and effective implementation of standards-based practices.
The guide will be distributed to school districts across the state. You can also download a copy at the link below. School districts have permission to reproduce the entire document.

Update
2008 Colorado Preschool Program Expansion
Attn: Colorado preschool program coordinators and school district personnel
The distributions for the 2008 Colorado Preschool Program expansion slots have been posted on the CDE Web site. Also posted on the Web site is a memo outlining how the allocations were made.
There are still 1,284 preschool slots available for the 2008-09 school year. Also posted under "2008 CPP Expansion" is a second spreadsheet that identifies the estimated remaining need for preschool slots.
Based on this need, CDE will allow school districts that did not apply for the 2008 expansion slots to submit an application. Districts that did apply and still have a demonstrated need may amend their previously submitted 2008 requests. These additional requests for slots should be submitted by July 1, 2008. Further information is included in the posted memo.
