Free Conference in Denver this August

This message came in today after The Scoop went out.
The American Statistical Association’s Meeting Within a Meeting (MWM) workshop for K-12 mathematics and science teachers will be held on Monday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 5 in conjunction with the 2008 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Denver, Colorado.
This free workshop is designed to enhance K-12 educators’ understanding of statistics and to provide information and tools to help strengthen the teaching of data analysis and statistics within the K-12 math and science curriculum.
We invite you to apply to attend this workshop and would appreciate if you would share this workshop information with colleagues who may benefit from this free professional development opportunity.

ASA will provide the registration fee, workshop materials, some meals and a certificate of participation from the American Statistical Association certifying professional development hours to accepted applicants. Workshop attendees may also receive a set reimbursement for lodging expenses for a two-night stay (one-night for Denver area teachers). Teachers will also have the option of attending sessions at the Joint Statistical Meetings such as the statistical education sessions, poster session and exhibit hall. There will be a dinner and career panel discussion Monday evening for all participating teachers.
We appreciate your efforts to enhance quantitative literacy. Space is limited, so interested teachers should apply as soon as possible, especially teachers needing lodging as the JSM housing registration opens May 1 and fills up quickly.
