Announcement
Education Data eXchange Forum (EDX) March 31
Attn: Chief Information Officers, District Technology Leaders, System Architects and Data Experts
Help guide the vision of a next-generation data exchange system, and collaborate with your technology peers across the state.
CDE is partnering with districts to host an inaugural meeting of a district technology advisory forum called EDX (Education Data eXchange). Share solutions, discuss best practices, and advise the state on strategies to more efficiently and effectively exchange data.
A kick-off meeting for the first EDX forum is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 at CDE, Board Room. A video/audio conferencing connection is under arrangement. Please let us know if you are interested in participating.
The goal is to create a statewide discussion forum and communication avenue for education data exchange and dissemination. This is your chance to voice technology improvement ideas to CDE or share innovative data solutions with other districts.
In-person meetings, Webinars, blogs, wikis, video/audio conference ― several methods of communications are possible for the EDX forum. The kick-off meeting will address which communications methods might be most effective, while setting initial committee expectations.
Help steer CDE and district technology into the future by joining the kick-off of the Education Data eXchange forum.

One-Year Substitute Authorization Application
Attn: Superintendents, Principals and HR Staff
The one-year substitute authorization application is now available on the Educator Licensing Web site.
Please click on the link below to access information about the one-year substitute authorization and the application. A link to the online application fee payment ($30) is embedded in the Web site’s "request application" link. Colorado issues three types of substitute authorizations: one-year authorization; three-year authorization; and five-year authorization. A one-year substitute authorization requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Not all school districts in Colorado will hire an applicant who holds a one-year substitute authorization. The substitute authorizations are issued without grade level or subject endorsement area designations.

Braille Textbook Orders for 2009-2010 School Year
Attn: Special Education Directors
The Colorado Instructional Materials Center (CIMC) staff requests that teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) submit all Braille textbook orders for the 2009-2010 school year as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, May 1, 2009.
Braille transcription contracts for books that do not currently exist in Braille are filled by vendors on a first-come, first-served basis. The sooner orders are received, the better the chances that students who are blind will receive their texts at the same time as their sighted peers.
The TVIs in administrative units with Braille students should be communicating with classroom teachers and curriculum departments to obtain print copies of textbooks that are required by vendors to complete the transcription process.
If a class syllabus is submitted, the books can be produced and delivered in partial shipments to correspond with the schedule of classroom instruction.
