Standards Implementation Update

Attn: Superintendents, Curriculum Directors, Content Coordinators, Principals

CDE is working with stakeholders from across the state to design a comprehensive approach to supporting Colorado in the transition to the revised Colorado Academic Standards. In an effort to communicate timely information to districts about standards implementation resources, a bi-weekly update will appear in The Scoop.

There are four initiatives included in this update.

• Standards crosswalk documents are complete. In partnership with educational leaders from across the state, CDE introduces the first support tool for transitioning to the revised standards: standards crosswalk documents. These documents are designed as working tools to compare the previous Model Content Standards to the revised Colorado Academic Standards. The crosswalks can be found at the link below. Training sessions on using the crosswalks will be provided via podcast for the arts, math, reading, writing, and communicating, science, and social studies in April. Details will be provided in the next standards implementation update.

• Online office hours: Content specialists host regular online office hours. Join us for these webinars from 3:15 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, Monday, April 12 and Wednesday, May 12. Links to join these webinars and podcasts of previous sessions can be found at http://www.cde.state.co.us/otl/ContentSpecialist.htm.

• Content connections: The Office of Teaching and Learning is looking for a core group of participants to help design and draft an Elementary Content Connections document which will identify the power connections across content areas. The initial meeting for this group will be on Monday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Resource Area For Teaching (RAFT) Colorado. RSVP to Melissa Colsman no later than Friday, April 2 to participate.

• Standards Implementation Tour: Plans are being finalized for a regional tour to support standards implementation mid-May through mid-June. Dates and locations will be in the next standards implementation update.
