FYI
Resources for Traumatic School Emergencies
Attn: Superintendents, Principals, School Safety-Related Personnel
The Colorado Department of Education is saddened by the school-related act of violence at Deer Creek Middle School in the Jefferson County School District on Tuesday, Feb. 24. We hope for the best possible outcomes for everyone involved and especially for the two injured students. We commend the heroic actions of all the faculty and staff, students, parents and community responders. They have exemplified how planning and preparedness serve the entire school-community during traumatic events.
We've created resources on our Web site that relate to traumatic school emergencies. They include tips for students, teachers and parents to help children and teens cope with trauma; a sample safety and security checklist; and behaviors to watch out for.
