Now Seeking Nominations for Colorado Talent Pool
Attn: Superintendents, District Personnel
The Colorado Department of Education maintains a file of emerging classroom leaders that consists of a cadre of distinguished teachers and principals. These educators may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces, as well as candidates for special recognition programs. Your recommendations will identify educators who will be of great value to your community and state and who may also ultimately receive prestigious recognition.
We are very fortunate to have a rich base of veteran educators represented in our current talent pool. They have been and continue to be a valuable resource in our state efforts. What is particularly lacking at this time is representation from educators relatively new to the profession who demonstrate unusual instructional and leadership ability. Such persons exhibit strong potential for professional leadership and inspiring presence that impacts students, colleagues, and community.
Nominations for 2011 additions to the talent pool are due by Friday, April 15, 2011. For more information on the nomination process, please the link below.

Clarification Regarding "Consent to Invite Agencies Related to Transition"
Attn: Special Education Directors and Coordinators, Transition Team Leaders, Secondary Special Education Teachers
There have been questions regarding whether consent must be obtained prior to inviting agencies to transition individualized education plan meetings. Parents must give consent in writing, as defined in the IDEA regulations, 34 CFR §300.9 (b), prior to the local education agency inviting any agencies related to transition to an IEP meeting. The "Consent to Invite Agencies Related to Transition" form can be found on the ESLU Web page listed below.

Statewide Standard Course Code Crosswalk Project – Input/Participants Needed
Attn: Superintendents, Principals, Data Contacts, Curriculum Staff, Technical Staff, Registrars
As CDE progresses through Phase III of the Educator Identifier Project-- to link educator and student data-- it is critical to map and connect local course codes to a set of statewide standard course codes (SSCC).
CDE will use an established standard course code framework to initiate the conversation between CDE and local education agencies on the purposes, characteristics, and data elements required to develop a set of statewide standard course codes (SSCC) and create/collect the crosswalk to local course codes. The framework provides the structure for a common understanding of the course code concepts along with the flexibility for customization of course codes to reflect CDE’s education policies, practices and priorities.
CDE is seeking input from both school district curriculum and technology staff regarding statewide standard course codes (SSCC) and participants in a pilot to create a crosswalk of local course codes to a set of statewide standard course codes (SSCC).
If you are interested in participating in this group discussion and pilot, please contact Steve Trujillo to sign up. This group will begin meeting in mid-February.
Updates to the group’s progress will be posted on the Educator Identifier Project Web page at the link below.

TELL Colorado Survey is Open
Attn: Principals, Superintendents, District Administrators, School Leaders
The TELL Colorado survey opened on Monday, Jan. 31. It will remain open until Monday, Feb. 28. The survey is available to all school-based, licensed staff (charter school staff do not need to be licensed) to share their perceptions of teaching and learning conditions. The intent is to provide schools and districts with additional information that support improvement efforts. It also provides the state with valuable data to drive policy decisions. This anonymous, online survey includes questions on the critical issues of time, facilities and resources, community engagement and support, student conduct management, teacher leadership, school leadership, professional development, instructional practices and support and resources for new teachers. Schools and districts must reach at least a 50 percent participation threshold to access their own data.
Schools should have received a packet with individual letters for educators that included a seven-digit access code to take the survey. If the packet was not received, please contact the TELL Colorado Help Desk (helpdesk@tellcolorado.org or phone 888-280-7903).
Please help us make this a successful initiative. Share this information with educators and encourage them to participate. Help them find the time to take it (e.g., staff meetings) and even provide incentives. To help, the Colorado Education Association (CEA) is offering cash incentives each week during the survey window to the schools that make the 50 percent threshold. Go to the Web site and track your progress (www.tellcolorado.org/response_rate)!
Thanks for your support on this important initiative. It matters.
