CDE and the Colorado Department of Higher Education will jointly host town hall meetings in Grand Junction and Gunnison from 5-7 p.m. as part of the ongoing effort to discuss the next generation of the state assessment system.
The meetings are devoted to postsecondary education and workforce readiness and high school assessments. Educators, students, parents, business and community members and interested citizens are invited to the meetings, which will be held at the following locations:
Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 5-7 p.m. Western Colorado Community College (A branch of Mesa State College) 2508 Blichmann Ave Building B – Room 113 Grand Junction, CO 81505
Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 5-7 p.m. Western State College Aspinall Wilson Center South Room 909 East Escalante Dr. Gunnison, CO 81231
The gatherings in Grand Junction and Gunnison are a part of the 14 statewide meetings planned to solicit a broad spectrum of community thinking. The meetings emphasize either school readiness and primary grade assessments or postsecondary and workforce readiness and secondary grade assessments. The work was launched by Senate Bill 08-212, the “Preschool to Postsecondary Education Alignment Act” also known as the Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K).
This new system will reflect the expectations of the updated Colorado Academic Standards and the requirements of CAP4K (Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids), which calls for both school readiness and Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness assessments.
