Attn: Administrators, Teachers
Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to attend a Renewable and Alternative Energy Workshop near you!
Science Explorers is a unique professional development program for teachers offering day-long, activity-based science workshops to teams composed of a teacher and five students.
This year Science Discovery has chosen Renewable and Alternative Energy as the Theme for the workshops, and has partnered with the Governor’s Energy Office to provide each teacher with a curriculum materials kit.
Science Explorers workshops are held at urban and rural sites throughout Colorado and include teams from schools in the host community as well as in surrounding districts.

ET-IL Online Submission System Launches
Attn: Superintendents, Technology Directors
You can now access the online Education Technology and Information Literacy (ET-IL) plan submission system. Open your own secure submission area to create and compile the elements of your ET-IL plan. You will have the ability to save your work and add and edit elements as needed at a later time. We hope that you find this new area useful as you start your planning process for E-rate and the other elements that are covered in the ET-IL planning guide.
REMINDER: The ET-IL plan has several elements that meet the need of three important mandates; Title II Part D, E-rate, and Accreditation. In the new system, you will have the ability to choose what type of review is necessary based on your need. In addition to school districts, the following entities will use the online system for submission for E-rate approval:
• Private Schools • Head Start Facilities • Charter Schools that are not included in the district ET-IL plan (note: if the Charter School does not receive Title II Part D funding, they only need to complete the E-rate requirements)

NCLB Post Award Revision process
Attn: Federal Program Contacts
Just a reminder that the system for revising a district's consolidated application for use of Title IA, Title IIA, Title IID, Title III, Title IVA, and Title V funds is available.
Districts/BOCES may submit their proposed revisions by going to the 2008-2009 NCLB Consolidated Application Web site and clicking on 'Post Award Revision.' This system must be used if a district wishes to make changes to its original, approved plan. However, approval is not needed if the district is merely changing the purchase of items within a given program and object category. For instance, if the original plan was to hire a professional development consultant from Axis Inc. and now the district will use ABC Inc. for those services, no revision is necessary. However, transfers out of salary accounts and increases in the purchase of equipment would require a budget revision.

Important Due Date
New Stipend Available for Teachers with National Board Certification
Attn: Superintendents, Principals, Teachers
A $1,600 teaching stipend will be available beginning this year to reward teachers who have earned certification through the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.
The deadline for teacher applications is Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009. To qualify, eligible teachers must be employed to teach in a Colorado public school district in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. If a teacher is less than full-time, the stipend will be pro-rated.
Individual districts will collect the applications and verify the information. For educators in low or unsatisfactory schools, an additional $3,200 stipend will be added to the $1,600 stipend. The money will be transferred to the districts and BOCES in April and to teachers after Friday, May 1, 2009. Funding is available for three years. Teachers that obtain certification during a school year are eligible the following year for stipend funds.
