Announcement

Educator Licensing Status Check is DOWN

Attn: Superintendents, Principals, HR Directors

A glitch in the latest e-Licensing system upgrade created problems with status check capabilities; thus CDE has taken down this portion of the department's website. We are working with the software developer to resolve this situation, and are hopeful to have the status check accurate and operational shortly.

In the meantime, please consult the list below to best inquire about the status of applicant's and their applications:

For inquiries about fingerprint reports or test results only, please contact the Office of Professional Services and Educator Licensing by calling 303.866.6628 or sending an e-mail to educator.licensing@cde.state.co.us. (Be sure to include the words "STATUS CHECK" in the subject line. This mailbox will be kept open and continuously reviewed for "STATUS CHECK" inquiries.) Please note: Status check inquiries will be given priority.

For all other inquiries, please contact the Office of Professional Services and Educator Licensing at 303.866.6628.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will let you know when the situation has been resolved.

Final Request for the Computer Specifications and Eighth-Grade Literacy Collections

Attn: Superintendents, Technology Directors

Title II Part D Grant Recipients -

CDE is compiling the eighth-grade literacy and computer specifications data from the collections that were opened earlier this year. We would like to thank the LEAs that provided information during the reporting period. Unfortunately, more than half of Colorado districts did not report eighth-grade literacy or computer specification data. CDE is receiving a number of inquiries about this information and preparing to report the final data to the U.S. Department of Education. It is our goal to have representation from each school district in the state.

If your LEA received a Title II Part D allocation during the 2010-11 funding year, you are required to report the data to CDE.

The eighth-grade literacy collection asked LEAs to report the number of students technologically proficient by the time they leave the eighth-grade. This collection opened in June and reports were due by Aug. 15, 2011.

The computer specifications collection asks LEAs to report the number of instructional computers at each school connected to the internet through a high-speed connection dial-up or not connected to the internet at the beginning of the school year. This collection opened and closed in March.

Please use the links below to verify compliance to this requirement. If the system does not display data, please enter data into the system at that time. If you are unable to edit the data listed, the report was received. You will have until Nov. 30, 2011 to provide this data to CDE.

NEW! Autism Level 2 Training: Challenging Behavior – Thursday, January 19, 2012

Attn: Special Ed Directors, Special Education Teachers, Principals, Occupational Therapists, School Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Paraeducators

Challenging behavior is often an obstacle that professionals face when working with students with autism. This can make classroom management and individual student management and safety difficult. Participants will practice hypothesizing functions of challenging behavior through video analysis. Alternative behaviors including functionally equivalent behaviors, functionally related behaviors, and coping skills will be identified. Data collection systems for tracking challenging behavior and a “checklist for survival” will be shared. The training will explore evidence-based interventions for challenging behavior, providing practical solutions for the classroom.

The training will be held Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Pueblo Convention Center, 320 Central Main Street, Pueblo, CO 81003.

This training is offered at no charge by the Exceptional Student Services Unit / Autism Team. The Challenging Behavior training will also be offered in the West Central and Metro regions.

Concurrent Enrollment Program Update

Attn: Principals, Superintendents, District Finance Office and School Counselors

By the 2012-13 academic school year, all districts participating in concurrent enrollment programming will be required to use the provisions outlined in the Concurrent Enrollment Programs Act. The collective intent of the Act is to broaden access to and improve the quality of concurrent enrollment programs, improve coordination between institutions of secondary education and institutions of higher education and ensure financial transparency and accountability. Beyond coordinating and clarifying the existing concurrent enrollment programs, the bill also creates the “5th year” ASCENT program for students retained by the high school for instruction beyond the senior year.
