Announcement
Character Education Partnership Awards National Schools of Character
Attn: Superintendents
Every year the Character Education Partnership (CEP) in Washington D.C. names approximately 10 public and private (K-12) schools and districts as National Schools of Character (NSOC) for their outstanding work in character education. The awards program honors these exemplars, showcases their work and facilitates their leadership in the field of character education. Winners of the national award also receive a grant of up to $10,000 to enhance their work in character education and to share their expertise with others.
Through a grant from the John Templeton Foundation the CEP has expanded its program to include State Schools of Character (SSOC). Many states, including Colorado, are now conducting SSOC competitions as a preliminary step to advancing to the national awards.
Three educators from past award winning schools in Colorado have been selected as evaluators. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, December 8, 2008.

These presentations will describe Colorado’s new longitudinal growth model. Additionally, attendees will learn about the five elements of the state’s new accreditation process and the primary role that the student growth model plays in district accreditation.
Following the general session, attendees will have the opportunity to choose from breakout sessions related to the various roles and responsibilities of accountability committees.
