Standards Implementation - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Attn: Superintendents, Principals
In December 2009, the Colorado State Board of Education formally adopted new standards that detail the broad themes, ideas and concepts that the state expects students to learn, experience and demonstrate for postsecondary success. The adoption followed a two-year, statewide conversation.
As part of CDEs ongoing commitment to providing support and service to educators in Colorado, the Office of Teaching and Learning is developing resources to support implementation of the new standards. The first in this series of supports is a set of frequently asked questions (and answers). They are posted at the link below.
Questions addressed include: What are the most significant changes in the revised Colorado standards? When should districts plan to start teaching to the revised standards document? What is the deadline to implement all of the revised standards documents? If we start teaching to the revised standards document now, will it affect our CSAP test scores?
The Office of Teaching and Learning continues to collect input from educators and leaders across the state to inform the development of support materials and tools to assist districts in implementation of the revised standards. The office is in the process of developing a timeline for implementation and support. Details on this timeline of will be distributed soon.

Safe2Tell Posters for School Buses
Attn: Superintendents, Principals, Transportation Directors, Safety Advocates
As one of the five founding state agencies of the Safe2Tell program, CDE continues to support and encourage the utilization of its toll free, anonymous reporting tip line, (877) 542-7233. Safe2Tell reports have resulted in hundreds of early interventions that have kept students and staff safe from harmful actions.
Placing the phone number in school buses is one way to ensure students have access to the number. CDE's Transportation Unit recently informed transportation directors that CDE will supply posters free of charge specifically for school buses upon request. Posters are 17" x 22". To request posters for buses, contact Jennifer Otey at Otey_J@cde.state.co.us.
Additional Safe2Tell marketing materials can be ordered at http://safe2tell.org/
If you wish to discuss Safe2Tell with a CDE representative, call Janelle Krueger. She has served as CDE's liaison to Safe2Tell since its inception in 2002.
