Data Pipeline Project (ADE Replacement)

Overview:

Data Pipeline is a streamlined approach to efficiently move required education information from school districts to the Colorado Department of Education. Data Pipeline reduces data redundancy, captures closer to real-time data, streamlines the data collection process and allows districts to exchange information on transferred students.

Data Pipeline replaces the Automated Data Exchange (ADE) system, that is used for state reporting, and takes CDE from 19 point-in-time collections to six transactional interchanges, allowing local education agencies to submit data regularly to CDE and fix data errors the data as they go.

The interchanges are focused on a Student Profile, Staff Profile, Organization Profile, Special Education, and Discipline.  These interchanges are intended to be transactional in nature therefore allowing Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to submit data regularly to CDE and clean the data as they go.

Strategic Objectives of Data Pipeline:

  • Reduce data redundancy

  • Streamline the data collection process

  • Move from a program-centric collection system to a student-centric collection system.

  • Capture more real-time information

What does this mean to you?

By 2013/2014 school year, districts will have a new system for reporting collected data that will reduce many of the redundancies found in the current system.  The Pipeline will offer enhanced functionality such as:  online error correction, web services, additional user roles within the system that will allow differentiated access to data, notifications to districts when students transfer to other districts, and providing matching capability from the Record Integration Tracking System (RITS) and Educator Identifier System (EDIS) within Pipeline.

Additionally when a student transfers to another school, Pipeline will be able to notify the last district as well as provide the new district with data needed to inform the instructional needs of the student sooner.

What’s Happening Now?

The Data Services Unit is currently conducting several trainings throughout Colorado for all districts.  Go to the Trainings page to sign up for trainings.  Three pilots have wrapped up this month, Finance, Report Card March, and SBD for TCAP.

As file layouts are posted on the website, vendors such as Infinite Campus are beginning the necessary development on their side to ensure districts are able to submit data in the required formats by September 1, 2013. Please continue to reach out to vendors to let them know that that the file layouts are on the website.

What’s on the Horizon?

During April 2013, CDE will kick off the Teacher/Student Data Link pilot and preparing for the Special Education December Count and Special Education Discipline pilot.

If your district is interested in participating in the pilot program, please contact Lisa Bradley at Bradley_l@cde.state.co.us or 303-866-4902.   Lisa can also provide additional information on Data Pipeline and help answer questions.  We will also continue to keep you updated in the SCOOP.

Data Pipeline Readiness Assessment

This assessment tool is intended to help Local Educational Agencies (LEA) determine their level of proficiency in processes and procedures within their organization that relate to successful adoption of the Data Pipeline. The tool has been created by the support team at the Data Services Unit of the Colorado Department of Education, who is responsible for supporting LEAs in the process of data submission and are charged with delivering the Data Pipeline related training.

As part of the on-going Organizational Change Management (OCM) efforts for the Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) grant, the CDE has completed the second of four planned Data Pipeline Readiness Survey’s.   The first survey was conducted in November of 2012, the second was conducted in early February with the remaining two to be completed in early April and early July.    CDE sent the second survey out to more than two thousand Data Pipeline stakeholders in an effort to measure their level of understanding of the project and how it is going to change the way they submit data in the future.   The results of that survey can be reviewed by clicking on the following link, Readiness Survey Results.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions or comments on the purpose of the survey or the attached results.  We appreciated your continued support of the Data Pipeline project.
