Data Pipeline Project (ADE Replacement)
Information
Overview:
Data Pipeline is an important component in the first phase of the RISE (Relevant Information to Strengthen Education) initiative. RISE is a secure network that provides immediate information to support students from preschool through career. You will be hearing a lot about how RISE impacts you in the coming months. Data Pipeline is a streamlined approach to efficiently move required education information from school districts to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). Data Pipeline replaces the existing Automated Data Exchange (ADE) system and takes CDE from 19 point-in-time collections to 6 transactional interchanges and 2 periodic data collections.
The interchanges are focused on a Student Profile, Staff Profile, Organization Profile, Special Education, and Discipline. These interchanges are intended to be transactional in nature therefore allowing Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to submit data regularly to CDE and clean the data as they go.
Strategic Objectives of Data Pipeline:
-
Reduce data redundancy
-
Streamline the data collection process
-
Move from a program-centric collection system to a student-centric collection system.
-
Capture more real-time information
What does this mean to you?
By 2013/2014 school year, districts will have a new system for reporting collected data that will reduce many of the redundancies found in the current system. The Data Pipeline will offer enhanced functionality such as: online error correction, web services, additional user roles within the system, notifications to districts when students transfer, and matching capability from the Record Integration Tracking System (RITS) and Educator Identifier System (EDIS).
What’s Happening Now?
Monthly webinars are taking place to share with districts the status of the project as well as the timelines for piloting and implementation. CDE has recently finalized the file layouts for Studnet Profile and is expecting to finalize he Staff Profile by the end of August.
During September, CDE will present the final file layouts to EDAC for approval. At that time, these file layouts will be posted on the website and sent to all district and vendors.
What’s on the Horizon?
In Fall 2012, we will be implementing a pilot program where we solicit input and feedback from a few districts prior to finalizing the new system. If your district is interested in participating in the pilot program, please contact Lisa Bradley at Bradley_l@cde.state.co.us or 303-866-4902. Lisa can also provide additional information on Data Pipeline and help answer questions. We will also continue to keep you updated in the SCOOP.
Important Upcoming Deadlines:
September 2012 - Finalize layouts for Student and Staff Profile
September 2012 - Pilot the Directory Collection
October 2012 - Pilot RITS/EDIS and Student October
