CO PBIS is excited to announce the following professional development events for the 2014-2015 school year:

SEPTEMBER 2014:

  • Tuesday, September 16th in Grand Junction

A Bully Prevention Institute will be offered through the Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC) in Grand Junction. Topics include, an overview of bullying prevention legislation, measuring school climate, best practices in bullying prevention, cyberbullying, positive school climate, intervention ideas, and preventing bullying based on race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or gender expression. 

Special Guest Speaker:  Dr. Dorothy Espelage

  • Friday, September 19th in Durango

A training on Alternatives to Suspension will be offered in Durango.  Topics to be covered include, Colorado HB 11-1277 (School Discipline), USDOE Resource Guide for Improving School Discipline, disproportionality, alternatives to suspension strategies, function-based supports, problem solving for behavior, and student engagement.

  • Monday, September 8th - Friday, October 31st

An online course will be offered on Progress Monitoring for Behavior.  Topics to be covered include, data collection, data analysis, and decision making as part of a problem-solving process throughout the universal, targeted, and intensive systems of social-emotional support.

OCTOBER 2014:

  • Tuesday, October 14th in Montrose

An Intensive Supports Training on Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning will be offered in Montrose.  Topics to be covered include, an overview of a simplified FBA process and an in-depth focus on the development, implementation, and monitoring of a sustainable classroom-based behavior intervention plan.

  • Thursday, October 16th in Littleton

This session will be a repeat of the Intensive Supports Training on Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning by Dr. Terry Scott described above.

An online course will be offered on an Introduction to Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning.  Topics to be covered include, an overview of FBA/BIP and a foundation for understanding and participating in the completion of FBA/BIP.

NOVEMBER 2014: 

  • Friday, November 14th in Denver

Colorado Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders, Affective Needs Conference featuring keynote speaker, Jonathan Friesen.  This conference will take place at the Double Tree Hotel in Denver.  On-line or mail-in registration is available on the CO-CCBD website.

A webinar will be offered for CICO-SWIS Facilitator Certification through the University of Oregon.  Only current certified SWIS and CICO-SWIS Facilitators are able to able to attend.

An webinar will be offered for an ISIS-SWIS Overview.  ISIS-SWIS is a decision/data system for students receiving more intensive supports for academic, social or mental health services. This webinar is for exploration purposed only.
