Application for the Certification of Multi-District Online Programs

Legislation and Rule direct the Unit of Online Learning to develop and implement a process for certifying Multi-District Online Programs. Only Multi-District Online Programs and their relationship with the authorizer must be certified by the Unit of Online Learning .

  • Certification is not required for a Single District Online Program.*
  • Certification is not required for Supplemental Online Programs.
  • Online Programs that serve a student population drawn from two or more school districts and enrolling more than ten students from outside the authorizing school district must apply for certification.

The next opportunity for certification will be January 2, 2012.  A digital copy must be received by CDE no later than  4 p.m., January 2, 2012Any applications not received by January 2, 2012, will be held for review until the April 2, 2012 submission date.

*Single-District Online Programs

Certification is not required for Single-District Online Programs.  However, prior to beginning operations a proposed program must submit an Application of Recognition to the Unit of Online Learning, which will determine whether or not the proposed program meets the CDE definition of an "Online Program."  A program that meets the definition will be "recognized" as an "Online Program" in the state of Colorado.  We are no longer accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year.
