Susan Wallace-Seman is in her 16th year of teaching; 14 years as an APE, 1 year as a middle school PE teacher and 1 year as an elementary PE teacher. She was awarded the SHAPE CO APE TOY in 2016.

Danielle Musser, MS, CAPE

Target Audience:

This workshop is intended for physical education teachers, adapted physical education teachers, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, special education teachers, and school administrators.

Session Objectives:

• Participants will understand the benefits of using an accommodations website
• Work time with small group help from Susan and Danielle
• A bank of accommodations will be provided
• Participants will learn how to create QR codes that link to their website

Susan and Danielle are both members of SHAPE Colorado, SHAPE America, and the CDE APE Advisory Council. They are also active on the national scene both attending and presenting at the National Adapted PE Conference (NAPEC) and for the National Consortium of Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities.

Their Story: Susan and Danielle created their own google sites to create an avenue for students to self-advocate and teachers to feel empowered to better teach students with disabilities. Background: “Knowing that I can’t be at every school during my students’ general physical education time means that I have to think creatively to provide continual consultation services. I created instructional handbooks that listed adaptations and modifications per the sport/recreation unit that could be utilized by general physical educators (GPE). I realized that hard copies were getting continually misplaced. This year I launched a google site that did the same task, except it surpassed my older model by utilizing videos from myself and from YouTube. By having a website, I am able to share this resource with a wider net of people with ease. Students can walk into their gym, scan the QR code on the GPE teacher’s door, and have instant access to advocate for themselves by asking for specific equipment or changing the task to fit their needs. The paraprofessionals, general physical educators, and parents in our district are able to use this system to provide better experiences for their students.”
