Welcome to the State Board of Education web site. Members of the Colorado State Board of Education are charged by the Colorado Constitution with the general supervision of the public schools. They have numerous powers and duties specified in state law. Individuals are elected on a partisan basis to serve six-year terms without pay.

Announcements

The State Board of Education has improved the format of its electronic agenda.  The link to access the agenda is http://www.boarddocs.com/co/cde/Board.nsf/Public. This link contains the agendas for the current and most recent board meetings. The State Board hopes that this format will provide greater access and information to the education community and the public.

Upcoming State Board Events:

  • November 11, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. State Board Work Session

    On November 11, 2009, the State Board will devote the day to a review of the revised Colorado Model Content Standards. The final drafts of the Colorado Model Content Standards may be viewed on November 7, 2009 after 1:30 p.m. on the following link: http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeassess/UAS/DraftStandards.html

    The schedule below allots a minimum of 20 minutes per content area. Public comment will be limited to three (3) minutes per speaker and must focus on the specific area being discussed. The chairman will try to accommodate all those present who wish to comment on the standards. The chairman may extend the timeframe of a given content area based on the amount of public comment and adjust the agenda accordingly. However, the Board will not hear a specific content area prior to the time publicized. Participants must sign in prior to the publicized time for the specific content area which they wish to address. The chairman will call those who wish to speak in the order on the sign-up sheet. While the Board welcomes oral testimony, the board will continue to hold open the opportunity for written comment. Written comments may be submitted on or before November 20, 2009 via email to: Standards_Review_Com@cde.state.co.us
