Available Workshops

Highly Effective Teaching Elementary Physical Education: Putting all the Pieces Together - Full day workshop

The new teacher evaluation can seem like a puzzle. However, putting the pieces together seems far less daunting when you work on it together.

In this workshop, we will sort through the quality standards to see how they fit into Physical Education and Health authentically.

Each standard: content and pedagogy, learning environment, effective instruction, reflection on practice and professional leadership will be addressed. When you look closely at each piece you realize how they are all interconnected; creating a big picture that represents a quality program, effective teaching practices and most importantly student growth and learning.

Fitness Assessment in Physical Education- Full and half day workshop

Intended for both novice and veteran physical educators, workshop is designed to teach participants about fitness assessment and give them the information and tools to help implement it effectively in their schools.

Time is spent covering the history and philosophy of health-related fitness education and assessment, practicing the activities and learning how these activities teach students the components and principles of health-related fitness.

The FITNESSGRAM assessment protocols and an overview of the FITNESSGRAM software are also included.

Using Technology in Physical Education- Full and half day workshop

Receive hands-on training on the use of heart rate monitors and pedometers. In addition lecture and discussion will focus on integrating this technology into developmentally appropriate standards-based physical education lessons. This workshop includes practice using the technology from the student’s perspective as well as from the teacher’s perspective.

Physical Education Assessment Strategies Pk-5- Full and half day workshop or Physical Education Assessment Strategies 6-12- Full and half day workshop

Assessment doesn’t have to be scary! Learn new activities and see how simple assessments can be put into action in your teaching. Be ready to smile and sweat and learn Standards Based Activities that can be fun for students, challenging and meaningful. No more assessing on “dressing out and participating”, rather that is an expectation. Teach it, believe it and implement it! Yes you can!

Integrating Physical Activity- Full day workshop

This workshop is designed for classroom teachers, physical educators, specialists, and administrators that are interested in integrating physical activity in the school setting. Evidence-based research will be presented on the positive impact of physical activity on academic performance, behavior, and overall health and wellness. Participants will learn a step-by-step process to increase physical activity opportunities. Resources and tools will also be shared.

Brain-Based Learning in Education- Full day workshop

This training workshop will focus on design, methods, and the creation of an environment that naturally enhances student learning. You will experience a variety of principles and strategies while discovering more about our brains. We will demonstrate techniques that apply brain-based learning modalities in education which assist the learning processes of all children. Learn how to incorporate methods into your teaching that will engage the learner resulting in increased student retention and enhanced performance. You will leave with methods that will engage the student, enhance their learning and create a stimulating environment that promotes both cognitive and physical growth.

Teaching with the Brain in Mind- Full day workshop

Get back onto the road of learning while considering the brain and how it operates, thinks, and processes information.  Take out your travel log from our first workshop (Brain-based Learning) or jump right in and join us as we travel and experience new “destinations” including neuroplasticity, learning to learn, mindfulness, using mistakes to make meaning, and brain differences (age, stage, gender).  Participants attending this workshop will take a “look under the hood” to gain a deeper understanding of how the learning brain functions and “map points-of-interest” by collecting a variety of strategies to implement into planning, content, and the classroom.  Let’s hit the road!
