Addressing the Needs of Gifted Learners Overview (formerly Javits)
Overview:
Colorado Department of
Education was awarded the federal Jacob K.
Javits Grant in 2005 for its “Take Five:
Unfolding Gifted Programming” project.
This grant provides the funding for two state initiatives:
Modules: Addressing the Needs of Gifted
Learners
Eight modules were developed
during the three-year grant period to
increase capacity of educators to meet the
instructional needs of gifted learners. Each
module will be offered in both online and
traditional kit formats.
Project
U-Stars
Provides teacher training and
supplemental science materials at treatment
school sites in Colorado. Project U-STARS
supports teachers in the early recognition
and nurturing of potential in children from
economically disadvantaged and/or culturally
diverse families and children with
disabilities in order to improve achievement
and provide access to advanced educational
opportunities.
