School Improvement

Every State accountability system articulates sanctions and rewards for schools that are tied to their performance relative to annual and long-term academic proficiency targets for all students. These progressively more comprehensive interventions are identified as “School Improvement”, “Corrective Action,” and “Restructuring”. The school improvement process and timeline are designed to create a sense of urgency about reform and to focus identified schools on quickly and efficiently improving student outcomes.  Identified schools are eligible for School Improvement Grants to support the improvement process.

** If the school misses AYP in the same content area next year, they will go on School Improvement

A school identified for Improvement must make AYP for two consecutive school years in order to exit Improvement status. That is, if a school is in Year 1 of Improvement during the 2011-12 school year, in order for the school to no longer be identified for Improvement, it must make AYP during the 2011-12 school year as well as the 2012-13 school year.
