One Time Window to Add the Mentor Teacher Endorsement
Please note that this page is intended for Colorado approved educator preparation programs that are looking to add the Mentor Teacher endorsement to their programs. Information for teachers looking to add the endorsement to their license will be available at a later date on the Endorsement Requirements page.
The Mentor Teacher endorsement window is now open and programs must submit by March 27, 2020 in order to have this endorsement reviewed and approved by the Colorado State Board of Education by June of 2020.
The 24-semester hour (or 360 clock hours) requirement for all endorsement programs is applicable to this endorsement. An additional requirement that is unique to this endorsement is the completion of a successful year of mentoring a student teacher or alternative teacher candidate. Upon completion of that successful year, the educator preparation program will be able to indicate the completion of the Mentor Teacher endorsement program for their institution.
To be endorsed as a Mentor Teacher, an applicant must hold a valid Colorado professional teaching license, have completed an approved Mentor Teacher training program, and have demonstrated at least one full school year of successful experience serving as a Mentor Teacher for a teacher candidate who is participating in clinical practice.
Before you start the application, be sure you have the following information available:
- Contact information
- Completed matrix
- Supporting documentation, such as syllabi and course sequence schedule
- A narrative response that includes background information about the endorsement program and why the program is seeking to add it
- Documentation showing how the 24 semester hours are being met
