Program Description

This program is a professional development pathway tailored to specific needs of district partners involving two separate professional development tools: 1) e-Workshops: These tools for professional learning communities, developed in conjunction with other higher education partners through the eCALLMS and ICMEE federal grant initiatives, utilize best practices for professional development (see note 1, below) to explore linguistically responsive teaching practices (see note 2). There are over thirty e-workshops available (see note 3). Some are tied to specific content areas (ie. Math ratios and Proportions or Writing for Multilingual students) or key understandings of CLDE (ie. Learning through Two Languages). The e-workshops are increasingly popular in Colorado and continued research demonstrates the effectiveness of the learning model (see note 4). Each e-workshop provides 18 hours of professional development in CLDE. 2) Guided Exploration: CU Denver designed this “guided exploration” course to supplement e-workshops and to ensure that the Colorado standards for professional recertification can be faithfully covered in all contexts. These are online, moderated learning experiences for individual teachers. In combination, these two tools allow us to craft affordable (see note 5) plans for our district or school partners: two “deep dives” into linguistically responsive practices aligned to local goals through ICMEE e-workshops (36 hours) combined with broad overview of CLDE quality standards. (9-15 hours).
