Program Description

CoTESOL Summer CLDE Institute: On-line CLDE 45 hr. PD Program Tentatively Scheduled for June 21st through July 2 Participants who complete the CoTESOL PD 45-hour PD program will be issued a single CDE Approved certificate and the CDE Teacher Matrix aligned to CLD Standards to submit with their license renewal application. Completion of each of the 10 courses will equal the 45-hour required by CDE. Each session will consist of a 3-hour live synchronous session, a 1-hour asynchronous reflection homework assignment, and a 30-minute online asynchronous discussion activity for a total of 4.5 hours per session. 10 Sessions x 4.5 hrs. = 45 hrs. Session 1: Understanding Cultural Lenses Session 2: EL Federal Laws & Policies Session 3: EL Foundations: CLDE 101 Session 4: Academic Language Session 5: WIDA Standards Framework Session 6: ELD Literacy & Strategies Session 7: ELD Strategies Across Content Areas Session 8: ELD Progress Monitoring & Gifted ID Session 9: EL & SpEd Services Session 10: Parent Engagement & Program Reflection In all 10 sessions, instructors will use structured conversation techniques in flexible small breakout groups to review session concepts with sentence stems to guide accountable talk. Participants will benefit from think-pair-share strategy variations along with graphic organizers used to gain first-hand experience of using the ELD strategies for learning. Participants will use the Teacher Frayer Model to practice vocabulary strategies to support their learning of the content. All sessions will use Zoom Meetings, Padlet and Google Forms.
