Online Professional Learning

Currently, our online courses are under reconstruction. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but the improvements will be worth the wait.

All of the online courses are limited to personnel working with Colorado preschool programs serving children who receive services under IDEA. The following considerations will be made when selecting participants:

  • Collaboration exists with AU administrators responsible for preschool special education to ensure staff commitment and follow through.
  • Teams are participating in professional learning together (teams represent general and special education and register together)
  • Technical assistance will be customized and content individualized with feedback between course facilitators and teams.
  • Participation in ongoing coaching and consultation to support implementation and sustainability.

Developing Routines Based IEP Goals for Preschoolers

Course Description

This 5-week course is offered to professionals working with preschoolers with disabilities or developmental delays and their families. A significant amount of time is spent developing the Individual Education Program (IEP), yet IEPs can sometimes be confusing for families and less than helpful for the classroom teams who support children with disabilities. The challenge to professionals then, is to write functional IEP goals that will guide the team in supporting a child within his/her everyday routines, activities and environment, engaging in ongoing monitoring of the child's progress and amending the IEP when necessary. We highly recommend that this course be taken by teams, but individuals are welcome when space is available.

* A certificate of participation for 15 contact hours will be issued upon successful completion of online course.

Practices for Preschool Inclusion

Practices for Preschool Inclusion, Part 1

This 5 week course is offered to both general and special educators and team members working with preschool-aged children with disabilities or developmental delays and their families. It will benefit participants by sharing learning strategies that will assist them in including children with developmental delays or disabilities into the general education curriculum. Participants will increase their understanding of and comfort with various aspects of inclusion. Family-centered practices with respect for cultural diversity are a given throughout the training units.

* A certificate of participation for 15 contact hours will be issued upon successful completion of online course section.

Practices for Preschool Inclusion, Part 2

This 5 week course is a continuation of Practices for Preschool Inclusion Part 1, While Part 2 is not a per-requisite for Part 1, Part 2 begins where Part 1 leaves off, and offers multiple tools/strategies that can be used to enhance the quality of inclusion in your setting. More inclusion tools and strategies are offered.
