Developing Functional IEP Goals for Preschool

Course Description

This 5-week course is offered to professionals working with preschoolers with disabilities or developmental delays and their families. A significant amount of time is spent developing the Individual Education Program (IEP), yet IEPs can sometimes be less than helpful for the classroom teams who support children with disabilities. The challenge to professionals then, is to write functional IEP goals that will guide the team in supporting a child within his/her everyday routines, activities and environment, engaging in ongoing monitoring of the child's progress and amending the IEP when necessary. We highly recommend that this course be taken by teams, but individuals are welcome when space is available.

This course is offered three times throughout the year as follows:

    • September 5, 2014 – November 12, 2014
    • October 24, 2014 – December 7, 2014
    • February 6, 2015 – March 15, 2015

* A certificate of participation for 15 contact hours will be issued upon successful completion of online course.

Practices for Preschool Inclusion

Practices for Preschool Inclusion, Part 1

This 5 week course is offered to both general and special educators and team members working with preschool-aged children with disabilities or developmental delays and their families. It will benefit participants by sharing learning strategies that will assist them in including children with developmental delays or disabilities into the general education curriculum. Participants will increase their understanding of and comfort with various aspects of inclusion. Family-centered practices with respect for cultural diversity are a given throughout the training units.

* A certificate of participation for 15 contact hours will be issued upon successful completion of online course section.

Practices for Preschool Inclusion, Part 2

This 5 week course is a continuation of Practices for Preschool Inclusion Part 1, but Part 1 is not a pre-requisite for Part 2. More inclusion tools and strategies are offered, with an emphasis on team collaboration and individualized instruction.
