Measures of Student Learning for Informing Educator
Effectiveness:
This work is ambitious. Most recognize that in order to actually measure student academic growth accurately and reliably it requires shared criteria, common language and accurate metrics. We believe fair evidence, while time consuming to establish, will significantly improve the insights necessary to have more students achieve at or above grade level.
As participating Colorado educators work side by side with state and national assessment experts in the “proof of concept” identification of strong student academic growth measures in each content area, a steady development of expertise begins to be established statewide. As schools and districts share their education leaders, pilot the measures and influence the terms of evidence, a precision about how to measure significant learning with all students becomes established.
Whether you decide to join this early work, pilot the early protocols or not participate, please consider the value of how consistent and fair feedback measures along the way can improve student achievement. Also, notice how more precise measures of evidence outcomes can change the way we discuss student success.
