State seeks input on draft Environmental Education Plan
The Colorado Department of Education announced today that it will hold a public feedback tour to seek feedback on its draft Environmental Education Plan. The plan was developed in response to House Bill 10-1131 which called for the creation of the Colorado Kids Outdoors Grant Program through the Colorado Department of Natural Resources and the development of an Environmental Education Plan within the Colorado Department of Education. The goals of both the grant program and the statewide plan are twofold: to improve young people’s knowledge of the environment, and to increase young people’s opportunities for outdoor educational experiences.
The draft outlines a vision and goals for environmental education in Colorado, makes recommendations for meeting those goals, provides an infrastructure for leveraging partnerships and resources across the state and outlines actions steps for implementation.
Public feedback opportunities will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the following locations:
Monday, Feb. 13
- Poudre Learning Center, 8313 West F St., Greeley
- Wednesday, Feb. 15
- Durango Public Library, 1900 E. 3rd Ave., Durango
- Thursday, Feb. 16
- Parks and Wildlife Office, Hunter Education Building, 6060 Broadway, Denver
- Wednesday, Feb. 22
- Parks and Wildlife Office, 711 Independent Ave., Grand Junction
- Rawlings Public Library, 100 E. Abriendo Ave., Pueblo
The public feedback tour is an opportunity for interested parties to provide in-person feedback on the plan. Hard copies of the plan will be available and representatives from the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado Department of National Resources will be on hand to answer questions. The department is also taking online feedback through March 1 at http://www.cde.state.co.us/otl/environmentaleducationplan.htm.
CDE will compile feedback in March and make revisions to the plan in April and May. The revised Environmental Education Plan will be presented to the State Board of Education in summer/fall 2012. For more information, visit http://www.cde.state.co.us/otl/environmentaleducationplan.htm
