Colorado State Board of Education Member Jane Goff chosen as director of national association

Jane Goff, a member of the Colorado State Board of Education, was re-elected to the board of directors of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). Goff will begin her two-year term as a director from NASBE’s Western region in January 2011.

“Jane Goff’s broad experience in the classroom and in education leadership provide the board great strength in helping our members better understand the many divergent and evolving issues they face every year,” said NASBE Executive Director Brenda Welburn. “She and the rest of our board provide their fellow policymakers from across the country the support and diversity of opinion so critical to finding solutions to the educational needs of American students in the 21st century.”

Goff, of Arvada, was elected to the Colorado State Board in 2008 following a 34-year career as a classroom French and Spanish teacher and director of Jefferson County Public Schools’ World Languages and International Student Exchange programs. She also served two years as president of the Jefferson County Education Association and six years as vice-president of the Colorado Education Association. Following her retirement in 2006, Jane worked as a legislative aide for the Colorado House of Representatives.

She serves on the state panel’s Read to Achieve Board, the P-20 Council’s Preparations & Transitions Subcommittee, the State Advisory Committee on Gifted and Talented and the Colorado State Accountability Network. Goff also serves on the selection committees for Colorado's Teacher of the Year and the Milken Family Foundation Teaching Award. She is also a liaison to the Colorado School Counselors Association and the State World Language Advisory Council and a member of the Aurora Public Schools P-20 Campus Advisory Council, the Adams County Education Consortium and the Jeffco Schools Strategic Planning Advisory Council.

She was also awarded the 2010 Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers Friend of Foreign Languages Award.

NASBE’s directors help set organizational direction and policy positions while also representing their region’s concerns to state boards nationwide.

The National Association of State Boards of Education represents America’s state and territorial boards of education. NASBE exists to strengthen State Boards as the preeminent educational policymaking bodies for citizens and students. For more, visit
