News Release

Public Tour Begins Today in Pueblo To Collect Feedback On Extended Evidence Outcomes For Students With Significant Cognitive Disabilities In Math, Science And English Language Arts

A four-city tour of the state will begin in Pueblo on Tuesday, Dec. 7 as part of the effort to gather feedback from parents and community members on the Extended Evidence Outcomes and Extended 21st Century Skills aligned to the P-12 Colorado Academic Standards that will replace the current K-12 Colorado Model Content Standards Expanded Benchmarks.

The Extended Evidence Outcomes are the revised Expanded Benchmarks for students with significant cognitive disabilities. They are meant to provide expectations to help students in inclusion settings reach the academic standards with appropriate supports for their needs. Similar to the standards adopted in 2010, a subcommittee of Coloradan educators created the draft expectations. Following reviews by national experts, the drafts are now ready for public feedback.

After public feedback is received and processed by the subcommittee members, the state board will review the draft document at the January state board of education meeting with final adoption in February. The final outcomes will be released and implemented in the 2011-2012 school year.

All four meetings on the tour will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule is:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 7, Pueblo Community College, 900 W Orman Ave.,

College Ctr. 200 Barbara Fortino Room, Pueblo

  • Wednesday, Dec. 8, University of Northern Colorado, 2045 10th Ave., Spruce A, Greeley

  • Thursday, Dec. 9, Mesa State College, 1100 North Ave., College Ctr. 235 West Ballroom, Grand Junction

  • Friday, Dec. 10, Red Rocks Community College, 13300 W. 6th Ave., EA 1013, Lakewood

The public can also provide comments via online feedback forms through Friday, Dec. 17 at http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeassess/UAS/ExpandedBenchmarks.html
