State Board Agenda For Monday, Dec. 6; Board Will Consider Remaining Assessment Attributes For Colorado’s New Assessment System

The Colorado State Board of Education this week will hold its regular board meeting on Monday, Dec. 6.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the first-floor board room at the Colorado Department of Education offices, 201 E. Colfax Ave., in Denver.

The state board of education will make a final decision on the adoption of the new Colorado Assessment System attributes. The recommended attributes complete the assessment design and complement the assessment architecture jointly adopted by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and the Colorado State Board of Education on Monday, Nov. 29. The Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K) requires creation of a new state testing system and requires the two boards to adopt the assessment attributes by Dec. 15, 2010.

  • Assessments update – Assistant Commissioner for Standards and Assessment Jo O’Brien will present the recommended attributes for the new state assessment system.

  • 1:30 p.m. – Public rulemaking hearing to amend the rules governing the Educator Licensing Act of 1991 regarding the Standards for the Linguistically Diverse Education Endorsement.
  • 2 p.m. – Public rulemaking hearing on the rules for the Administration of the Exceptional Children's Educational Act pertaining to the Gifted Student Education Budget.

  • Approval of tuition rates for Rocky Mountain Deaf School for fiscal year 2010-11.
  • Approval of excess cost rates for eligible facilities for fiscal year 2010-11.
  • Approval for the annual expenditure from the Mary Jones Trust Fund at the request of the Colorado Talking Book Library.
  • Approval of the revised amount for Akron R-1 School District regarding the BEST Grant and match amount.
  • Approval of notice of rulemaking to amend the rules for the Administration of Statewide Accountability Measures.
  • Approval of notice of rulemaking to amend the rules for the administration of the Colorado School Awards Program.
  • Adoption of new Colorado assessment system attributes.
  • Resolution recognizing Colorado State Board Member Randy DeHoff's contribution to Colorado's educational system.
  • Resolution recognizing Colorado State Board Member Peggy Littleton's contribution to Colorado's educational system.
  • Resolution recognizing Commissioner Dwight D. Jones' contribution to Colorado's educational system.
