State board recognizes students with perfect ACT score

The board also reviews department recommendations for district play type assignments and district accreditation ratings

The Colorado State Board of Education met for its regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 12 and 13. Highlights from the meeting include:

Perfect ACT Recognition

The state board and department honored students from across the state who earned a perfect score on the Colorado American College Test (ACT) during the 2013-2014 school year. Colorado is one of 14 states to provide the ACT to all juniors.  The students who scored a perfect 36 on their Colorado ACT are:

  • Nicholas Campbell‐Kruger, Boulder High School (Boulder Valley School District)
  • John Jackson, Centaurus High School (Boulder Valley School District)
  • Jason Perrin, Fairview High School (Boulder Valley School District)

  • Vivian Wang, Fairview High School (Boulder Valley School District)

Accountability, Performance and Support

The board reviewed the department’s recommendations for district plan type assignments and district accreditation ratings.  The accreditation ratings represent recommendations that are either the same as the initial recommendations made by the department, or recommendations that represent an agreement reached by the department and those districts that elected to submit additional data for consideration.  To view the presentation, click here

Staff provided an overview of information gathered by the Center for Assessment regarding how other states assess and hold schools accountable at the high school level in regard to their assessment systems and use of growth measures. The board has engaged in a series of discussions regarding the quantity of state assessments.  The board asked staff to examine options and implications should state policy makers choose to reduce the number of assessments.

  • The board adopted emergency rules for Gifted Education Grant Program. 
  • The board adopted amended emergency rules for the administration of the Colorado School Awards Program.
  • The board approved the notice of rulemaking for the amended rules for the administration of the Colorado School Awards Program.

  • The state board tabled the rules for the administration of the adult education and literacy grant program for adoption at the Dec. board meeting. 
  • The board approved the rules for the administration of the School Turnaround Leaders Development Program. 
  • The board approved the rules for the administration, certification and oversight of Colorado online programs.
  • The board approved the rules for the administration of the waiver of statute and rule. 
  • The board tabled the rules for the administration of the English Language Proficiency Act for adoption at the Dec. board meeting.
  • The board tabled the rules governing the renewable energy and energy efficiency in our Schools Loan Program.
