Early Literacy Assessment Tool Project Calendar

2016-2017 ELAT Benchmarking Dates

  1. Plan to Benchmark all K-3 students at beginning of the year (BOY), middle of the year (MOY), and end of the year (EOY).
  2. Pick a 2 week window from the dates listed below:
  • BOY: 
    • For grades 1-3 - within the first 30 *calendar days of school. *(Not in alignment with the READ Act rules this is 30 calendar days and not instructional days_
    • Kindergarten consideration: Through a provision in HB15-1323 you may choose to you may use up to 60 calendar days for initial benchmarking. However, we would encourage districts to continue with best practice by benchmarking and providing support early in the year, within the first 30 days. .Completion of your READ BOY assessment within the 60 calendar days allows will inform the literacy component of your readiness assessment.
  • MOY: December 5-21 or January 9-23
  • EOY: April 24 - May 12
  1. Contact Karen Cushman at with the dates you have selected for all three benchmark windows by August 19, 2016.
  2. Ensure you notify all schools, including Charters, of your official Window.
  3. If you need any assessment times outside of these windows, please email both Donna Bright, and Karen Cushman,, requesting your needed dates and reason for the change.  CDE will make final decisions.
