Office of Special Education

This site/office is a resource to teachers, administrators, and parents of students with exceptional educational needs due to disability, or learners who are culturally and/or linguistically diverse or have some other special need. The Office of Special Education is one of three offices under the Exceptional Student Services Unit (the other two are the Office of Facility Schools and the Office of Gifted Education). 

 

Public Notice

The Colorado Department of Education is recommending changes to the Rules for the Administration of the Exceptional Children’s Educational Act (ECEA). These proposed Rules pertain to standards for Administrative Units (AUs) regarding the provision of special education to students with disabilities.

The State Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 3:30pm, in the State Board Room at the Colorado Department of Education located at 201 E. Colfax, Denver Colorado 80203.

The draft of the proposed changes:

Any interested persons may provide oral testimony at the hearing.
