Application Processing Delay
A system-wide upgrade of the Colorado Department of Education educator licensing online application system and a merger of all educator licensing data were completed in November. While this upgrade and merger were imperative for strong functionality of the system, this process has had more than a few bumps in the road.
As a result, we have experienced unanticipated events and delays that have caused an interruption in our ability to receive, access and evaluate applications for licensure, and educators are experiencing a delay of up to two weeks beyond our normal four- to six-week application processing time. Those applicants from whom we require additional information may see even slightly longer delays. For all of this, we apologize.
Please know that we very much value your service as an educator and recognize your frustration and the urgency of the situation.
Thank you for your patience as we work fervently to correct outstanding issues with our system and do everything in our power to correct these issues and decrease the amount of time it is taking us to issue licenses.
- In November 2015, the Colorado State Board of Education approved a moderate increase in the fees associated with the evaluation of applications for educator licensure. This increase is necessary in order to sustain the rising costs associated with the day-to-day operation of the Office of Educator Preparation and Licensure.
Hard Copy Licenses
Hard copy licenses will no longer be available from CDE beginning July 1, 2015. Due to low demand and increased printing costs, this option has been eliminated. Please review the Credential Delivery page to learn more about eCredentials.

Mailing Transcripts is No Longer Required
- As of 9/1/13, you no longer need to mail or bring in your official transcripts to CDE unless specifically requested to do so.* However, high quality scans of your transcripts do need to be uploaded into your eLicensing application.
- To provide some background, CDE does not file transcripts, scores or any other documentation on your behalf. We use these documents only to evaluate your application but we do not keep them on file. Please keep your transcripts, scores, and other documentation in your own personal files in case of audit or for use in future applications.
- *We want you to have the fastest service possible! If you have been asked to mail documents to us, make sure to mail them to 6000 E Evans Ave, Building #2, Suite 100, Denver, CO 80222.
