Initial Teaching License-Approved Program with Graduate Coursework
An Initial Teaching License in an endorsement area requiring graduate-level coursework may be issued to an applicant who:
- Holds a bachelor’s or higher degree from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education
- Has post-baccalaureate, graduate-level coursework or a graduate degree from an approved program
Additional requirements per endorsement area:
Early Childhood Special Education Specialist, Ages Birth to 8
- PLACE Early Childhood Special Education assessment
- Completion of an approved undergraduate program in early childhood education, or in early childhood special education
- Completion of an approved post-baccalaureate, early childhood special education specialist program
Gifted and Talented Specialist, Grades P-12
- Hold an Initial or Professional Teacher License endorsed in an approved content area
- Completion of an approved graduate-level program for the preparation of the gifted-education specialist
- PLACE Gifted and Talented assessment
Reading Specialist, Grades K-12
- Hold a Colorado Initial or Professional Teacher License, with an endorsement in an approved content area
- Completion of an approved graduate program for the preparation of reading specialists from an accepted institution of higher education
- Have three or more years of demonstrated and effective classroom teaching experience
- PLACE Reading Specialist assessment
Reading Teacher, Grades K-12
- Hold an Initial or Professional Teacher License
- Completion of an approved graduate program in reading, from an accepted institution of higher education
- Have two or more years of teaching experience in an elementary or secondary school, as appropriate to the endorsement being sought
- PLACE Reading Teacher assessment
Special Education Specialist, Ages 5-21
- Master’s degree or higher in an approved program for the preparation of special education specialists, from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education
Special Education Specialist: Visually Impaired, Ages Birth to 21
- Master’s degree or higher in an approved program for the preparation of special education specialists: visually impaired from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education
Special Education Specialist: Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Ages Birth to 21
- Master’s degree or higher or its equivalent in an approved program for the preparation of special education specialists: deaf/hard of hearing, from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education
Teacher Librarian, Grades K-12
- Hold an Initial or Professional Teaching License
- Hold a master's degree in library science
- Completion of a minimum of one-year of teaching experience in the classroom
- PLACE School Librarian assessment
