Alternative Teacher Programs Designated Agencies
Alternative programs are approved by the Colorado State Board of Education and provided by approved Designated Agencies. All programs are required to provide 225 contact hours of instruction related to the Colorado Teacher Performance Standards. Program completion requires demonstration of proficiency in these standards. The candidate works with a mentor teacher and supervisor throughout the program.
The designated agency may require the candidate to take additional coursework related to educational pedagogy, classroom management, etc., in addition to their teaching responsibilities. All agencies require applicants to have met either the 24 college semester hours requirement or the testing requirement* in the endorsement area PRIOR to seeking employment. Please do not contact these Designated Agency representatives until after you have gained employment.**
*Candidates seeking the Special Education Generalist endorsement are required to pass the Elementary Education content exam prior to program enrollment. For completion of the program, candidates must have obtained either 24 college semester hours of special education coursework or have successfully passed the Special Education Generalist PLACE content exam.
**Except for Boettcher Teacher Program
Employment as an alternative teacher or participant in an alternative preparation program prior to the issuance of a Statement of Eligibility will not be accepted for purposes of program completion and preparation for initial licensure.
