Content Tests - PLACE

2009 - 2010 PLACE Test Information and Registration Schedule

The Colorado Legislature passed Senate Bill 00-195 that limits Colorado's educator assessment program to content tests only, eliminating tests in basic skills, liberal arts and sciences, and professional knowledge. Please refer to the list below for the various content tests to be administered.

  Internet Registration
To register on the Internet, your registration must be completed by 4:00 p.m. mountain time on the applicable registration deadline.
 
 
U.S. Mail Registration
To register by mail during the standard registration period, your registration materials must be received by the standard registration deadline.
 
Telephone Registration
To register by telephone, you must call (413) 256-2885 by 4:00 p.m. mountain time on the emergency registration deadline.

Will there be more test dates for the PLACE tests?

Tests for all major content fields will be administered seven times per year.  The remaining test fields will be available either four or six times per year, depending on the number of examinees who register.

Test fees:

The registration processing fee is $35.00. The test fees are $60.00 for first-time test takers.   Test re-takers will receive a $25.00 rebate for repeated attempts.

  • Online and Phone Payments: VISA or MasterCard only.
  • Mail payments: Cashier's Check or Money Order only.

Rapid Results

Score reports for all tests except those with performance assignments will be returned about two weeks following each test administration.  Results for the language tests and Severe Needs: Vision will be returned about four weeks after each administration.

Who is Required to Take the PLACE Assessments?

All candidates for initial educator licenses (initial license) in Colorado are required to take and pass one or more of the PLACE assessments.  This includes candidates for teaching, special services, principal, and administrator licenses.

Applicants for Initial Educator Licenses who hold a standard license in another state (outside Colorado) or country, and who have three or more years of full-time, consecutive, successful, evaluated out-of-state experience in their requested licensing area as verified by the out-of-state employing school or school district may be exempt from taking the PLACE assessments.  Consult the application for an Initial License provided by the Colorado Department of Education.
