Initial Career and Technical Education (CTE) Courses

The Initial CTE authorization is non-renewable. Applicants may be required to complete additional coursework before qualifying for a Professional CTE Authorization. Applicants will be notified by CDE via email of any required coursework that is needed to move from a three to a five year CTE Authorization. Please do not enroll in coursework related to this CTE Authorization until notified by CDE.

 

For Applicants who hold a Colorado Teaching License

When taking these courses, please be aware that both courses must be completed at either Colorado State University or through the Colorado Community College system. This is necessary in order to fulfill the course content and semester hour requirements.

If taking both courses at CSU, these are the courses that may be assigned:

  • EDCT 300 - CTE philosophy, operation, and management (2 semester hours)
  • EDCT 400 - Student organization/leadership development (2 semester hours)

If taking both courses through the Colorado Community College System, these are the courses that may be assigned:

  • EDU 250 - CTE in Colorado (one semester hour)
  • EDU 251 - Secondary CTE Capstone (3 semester hours)

 

For Applicants who do not hold a Colorado Teaching License

When taking these courses, please be aware that the entire series must be completed at either Colorado State University or through the Colorado Community College system. This is necessary in order to fulfill the course content and semester hour requirements.

If taking this series at CSU, these are the courses that may be assigned:

  • EDCT 472 - Classroom management/creating a positive learning environment/safety & liability (one semester hour)
  • EDCT 471 - Orientation & assessment of new CTE teachers/teaching strategies (two semester hours)
  • EDCT 473 - Communication strategies/career advisement/facilitating CTE leadership activities (one semester hour)
  • EDCT 486V - Practicum 40 hours mentor oversight/evaluation (one semester hour)
  • EDCT 494V - Portfolio/professional growth plan development (one semester hour)

If taking this series through the Colorado Community College System, these are the courses that may be assigned:

  • EDU 260 - Adult Learning and Teaching (3 semester hours)
  • EDU 250 - CTE in Colorado (one semester hour)
  • EDU 288 - Practicum II (one semester hour)
  • EDU 289 - Capstone (one semester hour)
