Requirements for an Initial Administrator (Superintendent) or Director of Special Education
An Initial Administrator (Superintendent) License may be issued to an applicant who:
- Holds a baccalaureate degree from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Has completed an approved graduate program for school administration at an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Has a passing score on the PLACE Administrator content exam (#81).
An Initial Administrator (Director of Special Education) License may be issued to an applicant who:
- Holds a master's or higher degree in special education or in a related field of special services from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Has a minimum of two years of experience working with students with disabilities.
- Has completed an approved program for the preparation of special education directors, which included a supervised field-based experience
