State Library - Services to Libraries

Children and Teen Services - The Colorado State Library supports children and teens by coordinating statewide initiates for early literacy, summer reading, and other literacy campaigns. The Youth Consultant provides consulting and training on child development, library programming and activities as well as public/school library collaboration.

School Libraries - Support for School Libraries includes professional development in instruction and information literacy, consultation on school library initiatives, development of the Standards for the 21st Century Learner, and the Power Libraries Program.

Public Libraries - Support for Public Library Leaders including resources for districting, trustee orientation, strategic planning, buildings and community initiatives.

Institutional Library Development - Manages library services for correctional, residential, and medical institutions operated by the state, including prisons, medical and mental hospitals, youth facilities, training schools, nursing homes, etc.

Library Statistics - Library Research Service (LRS) is the unit of the Colorado State Library that provides library professionals, educators, public officials, and the media with research and statistics about libraries.

Literacy - Find resources on literacy and live-long learning initiatives in libraries.

Marketing - Resources for marketing, library advocacy, and events planning.

Professional Development - The Colorado State Library promotes professional development at all levels including the MLS, certificate programs, and continuing education.

Resource Sharing & Interlibrary Loan - CSL's Networking and Resource Sharing (NRS) manages statewide services and projects so that libraries don't have to "go it alone." NRS coordinates technology-based services best suited to groups of libraries. The kinds of on-line services listed below are examples of the power behind library partnerships, cooperative purchasing, and web-based resources designed to meet multi-type library needs.

Special Populations - The Colorado State Library and its Special Populations & Issues Committee lead a variety of statewide programs and projects to encourage quality library service to ethnic minority populations, persons with physical and mental disabilities, seniors, the under-served, and other groups. The Committee undertakes activities and provides information to assist local libraries and their communities.

State Publications - Provides convenient access to information produced by state government through online catalog, loan of materials, liaisons with depository libraries, and E-mail inquiries.

Talking Book Library - A free service to Coloradans of all ages who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical or learning disabilities whether permanent or temporary. CTBL provides recorded, Braille and large-print books and magazines as well as a small collection of descriptive videos.

Technology - Technology resources, links and strategies for keeping up with technology.


Other Resources and Organizations

Acquisition of Information Resources Statewide (AIRS) - The AIRS Committee (Acquisition of Information Resources Statewide) has negotiated with OCLC and EBSCO to provide selected databases covering general, business and K-12 information -- including nearly 10,000 full-text magazines, journals, newspapers and newswires from around the world -- at a special Colorado Statewide rate.

Collaborative Digitization Program (CDP) - The CDP endeavors to provide meaningful content on human culture, science, and art to everyone connected online. Photographs, maps, documents, sound recordings, objects from museums, libraries, and archives in the west are all available.

Colorado Libraries Blog - A blog for all libraries with authors from the Colorado State Library and CLiC.

Colorado Libraries Collaborate (Statewide Borrowing) - A reciprocal borrowing program to allow library card holders from participating libraries to borrow materials from other participating libraries.

Colorado Library Consortium - The nonprofit Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC) is an collaborative-focused organization that empowers libraries and library staff to better serve their patrons. See the CLiC website for more information.

Colorado Library Directory - The Online Directory of Colorado Libraries will display a list of libraries to your specifications.

Colorado Virtual Library (CVL) - Access to library catalogs through the same search interface or multiple library catalog searches; display photos, Web sites, etc.; search individual library catalogs; create a bibliography of resources.

Distance Learning and Graduate Library Education - Continuing education and out-of-state degree library program opportunities and approved programs for Library Media Endorsement in Colorado.

E-Rate (Telecommunications Discounts) - Information about Schools and Libraries Discount Program authorized in the Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Jobline - Colorado State Library Jobline is a free service of the Colorado State Library. It is updated daily as position information is received. Library, literacy, and education position vacancies are available. All job listings comply with the Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action guidelines.

Library Automation - The basics of library automation, including preparation, patron records and barcodes, standards, data conversion and weeding, data migration, RFP, vendors, and resources.

Listservs - Lists library-related listservs and Web sites of interest. Includes information on why you should join a listserv, majordomo, who is in charge, and how to address Email to the list.

LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) - Annual federally funded grants for library projects, administered by the Colorado State Library. Grants are made annually. Grant application information for next fiscal year will be available in the spring.

SWIFT - The State Wide Interlibrary loan Fast Track (SWIFT) is the web-based electronic interlibrary loan requesting and tracking system that the Colorado State Library provides free of charge to all public, academic, school, and special libraries in Colorado
