Graduate Library Education Programs for Library Endorsement

  • Colorado Library Media Endorsement and University Class Contact Information
The above link provides basic contact information for the four in-state programs that offer endorsements or MLS programs for school librarians.  All are either NCATE or ALA approved.

  • Library Media: University Courses and Distance Learning Information
The above link provides selected distance learning opportunities for librarians seeking additional training, endorsement, or full MLS.  These institutions are not affiliated with Colorado schools, but do meet the course specifications for school library endorsement. These are not the only programs available, and are provided here as a service for candidates seeking online courses in librarianship.

  • Library and Information Science Graduate Distance Learning Programs
This link allows candidates to search for additional online and resident programs in library science.  Candidates should ask prospective schools whether the coursework is compatible with existing Colorado endorsement rules, or check with the Colorado Teacher Licensure unit at 303-866-6628.

Colorado Endorsement Requirements for School Librarians

The Rules for Endorsement of School Librarians were revised in September of 2003.  Because Colorado is a local control, non-regulatory state, districts establish their own staffing requirements and policies.  Candidates interested in applying for positions in Colorado should check with the districts they are interested in to inquire what the hiring policies are, and whether an endorsement is required or not as a pre-requisite for employment.  District contact information can be found on the Colorado Education and Library Directory.
