Literacy

Current organizations and resources to help support and promote literacy in children, adults, and a variety of special populations:

  • Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy (CLEL)
CLEL is passionately committed to strengthening children's literacy through library services and community advocacy.

  • Children's Literacy Initiatives
Variety of statewide activities and involvement to spotlight library services in support of children's literacy.

  • Find An Author
In cooperation with Book Organizations of Colorado, a free database of Colorado authors interested in making presentations or speaking at libraries, schools, bookstores, and service groups. (Service does not rate, rank, or endorse participants. Authors may charge a fee for services.)

  • Special Populations & Issues Committee
Website contains hundreds of resources for libraries and other organizations, along with the Diversity Tool Kit and strategic plan. Goal is to improve quality library service to ethnic minority populations, persons with physical and mental disabilities, the underserved, seniors, and other groups.

  • Statewide Summer Reading Program: Colorado is a member of the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), a grassroots consortium of states working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for children at the lowest cost possible for their public libraries.
